Glasgow Uni Hackathon and CTF
Posted on 12 October 2024
I designed and built a 2 part capture the flag event for the Glasgow Uni Hackathon and CTF Weekend. The CTF was
written in Go and consisted of two parts:
- A programming challenge where students had to write their own network enabled brute force password cracking tool.
- I provided example code in Python which they built on top of.
- If the server received 100 requests it would enable a basic “captcha” system which the students had to bypass.
- A Web based challenge where students had to decode and manipulate the auth cookie in order to gain admin rights
In addition to the CTF challenge I also gave a presentation on a career in Cybersecurity, explaining how broad the job was
and gave some examples of various incidents I had responded to in the past.
